Film: The Lovely Bones
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Saoirse Ronan
Genre: Drama
Direction: Peter Jackson
Duration: 2 hours 1 minute

Story: Fourteen-year-old Susie Salmon dies an untimely death after she falls prey to a psychopath who lives next door. Instead of going directly to heaven, she hovers in-between, unable to break off the ties with her grieving family and friends. Will she be able to finally forgive, let go and leave her family to pick up the strings of life again? Difficult question.
Movie Review: Peter Jackson presents a totally new perspective on serial killing with this unusual and tragic tale of a bunch of young girls who linger between heaven and earth after suffering brutal deaths at the hands of a heartless psychopath. Unable to cut off their bonds from their families, the hapless souls sail through a purgatory-like world, waiting for deliverance. And while they wait, they try an communicate with their loved ones through strange mediums, hoping to hang on to earthly love, as long as they can....
Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) is unable to leave her family and her boyfriend, even though she has been brutally murdered by the strange and sinister neighbour (Stanley Tucci) who lures her into an underground entrapment one fateful night while she was passing through the corn field behind her school. She longs for a lot of things. Like, getting back to the warmth of her home, where her parents (Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz) and her siblings desperately try to cope with her loss. Like, avenging her death, specially when her killer plans to target new victims. Like, stealing the kiss she never got from her poet boyfriend. But it isn't easy for souls to connect and it isn't allowed for souls to return. So Susie must learn to let go, but before she does, she touches your heart with her moving predicament. Even as Peter Jackson creates his characteristic vistas of visual splendour on screen, once again.
Quite metaphysical and not quite Lord of the Rings, nevertheless, The Lovely Bones does have a unique charm of its own. More importantly, it is a story well told.

Movie Review: Gamer

Film: Gamer
Cast: Gerard Butler, Amber Valetta, Kyra Sedgwick, Michael C Hall
Genre: Action
Direction: Mark Neveldine, Bryan Taylor
Duration: 1 hour 35 minutes

Story: The gaming industry moves to a whole new level. Real life people are used as avatars by gamers and the violence gets a new high as humans are transformed into killing machines and high security prisoners are promised freedom if they manage to survive the brutal playstation world that now functions on nano chips inserted in the human brain. In such a programmed scenario, will ace assassin, Kabel (Gerard Butler) be able to turn renegade and return to his wife (Amber Valetta) and daughter?
Movie Review: For all you Second Life buffs, this one's a must, if you really want to see where you are headed. Ever wondered what the flip side of the virtual world can be? Go for Gamer.
Millioniare Michael C Hall rules the gaming industry with his state-of-the-art game Society, where real life humans end up as sexier avatars for slobs. The couch potatoes can make them function any which way through micro chips which are inserted in the avatar's brains. But this whole make-believe Eldorado is suddenly threatened when high-powered assassin, Kabel (Gerard Butler) convinces his owner to set him free. Kabel needs to rescue his wife (Amber Valetta), a vacuous hottie in Society, from the virtual world and extricate his young daughter from foster care in order to re-build his home once again. And the only way he can do it is through some more killing and blood splattering.
Meant strictly for action-buffs, Gamer is a timely warning for the gaming industry. Too much virtual violence might just turn the real world turtle.

It was an enthralling finale to STAR Plus' "Music Ka Maha Muqabbla", as popular composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan pipped playback singer Shaan in the mega reality show here Saturday night.
Shankar's team "Shankar's Rockstars", comprising singers Rahul Vaidya, Sharib Sabri, Sanjeev Kumar and Neetii Muhan, rocked the stage with peppy numbers and won the show by three points.
They took home a cash prize of Rs.50 lakh (Rs.5 million) presented by sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
After the victory, Shankar told IANS: "I used to meet with my team members now and then but I never thought that we will make such a wonderful team. Our main motive was entertainment, but along with that we tried giving some message which thankfully reached to the people. I haven't decided what to do with the prize money. Now we will party and hopefully go on a tour."
Shaan too gave his best shot to the show and gave tough competition to Shankar with his team "Shaan's Strikers" that included Harshit Saxena, Anweshaa Dutta Gupta, Debojit Saha and Shadab Faridi.
However, even with a lot of votes, he fell woefully short.
Popular numbers, a lively audience, energetic dancers - the show was a melange of it all.
"Music Ka Maha Muqqabla", which has been on air since 13 weeks, had Mika, Himesh Reshimyya, Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal in the race earlier.

Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar are at it again. The producer duo, who rocked Bollywood with their mega blockbuster Dil Chahta Hai in 2001, a story about three best friends — Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Saif Ali Khan — have once again brought together three hunks for their next big one.

So there’s Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan himself in this untitled film to be directed by Zoya Akhtar, which has Katrina Kaif, Kalki and another hot babe from London. A road trip to Spain is what the story is about and insiders say, one will get to see places unheard of, afterall, Ritesh and Farhan themselves have gone on a road trip to Spain for the same. Ritesh, who was boarding a flight to Spain, said, “I can’t reveal much about the plot. We begin shooting this summer and the film will release in the begining of next year.”
That’s going to be a long wait for Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay’s fans and besides, there’s also the hot Katz and Hrithik pairing which has never been seen onscreen before. In all of Excel Entertainment’s films, the look of the stars in this film will also be different.
Working on their looks is stylist Arjun Bhasin. “The film’s going to be shot in one schedule from May to August this year. All the stars have given bulk dates for the same. It starts and finishes in Spain itself,” said a source.

Cinema can go a long way in promoting positive bilateral relations between Australia and India, especially Bollywood films as they are "all about heart", said Rani Mukerji, who was here as chief guest at the 2010 Indian Film Festival - Bollywood and Beyond
"Cinema showcases different cultures and Indian films are all about our culture, our traditions, human relations and all about heart. So when Australians watch Indian films, they will get to know Indians better and that will help in knowing each other better," Rani said.
So will she act in a film on racism? "As an actor, I would be part of any film that inspires me as an artist. If there is a great character for me to play, if I feel there is something interesting in the film about racism and if there is a positive outlook towards changing the mindset, I would hundred percent do it."
She would like to do diverse, challenging roles. So does she feel socially responsible while doing a movie? Giving the example of her role as a deaf, dumb and blind girl in "Black", she said, "I do expect that people who do not know about the deaf and blind get more aware of people like them. You should never pity them because they are such spirited, lively, fun people and there is so much to learn from them. Michelle McNally did graduate despite her handicap. The sheer fact that if you have the passion, nothing is impossible in life. That is what my character in 'Black' and the film taught me and that is what I would like to portray to the hundreds and millions of my fans who watch the movie".
The festival, which opened with "Black" and "Dil Bole Hadippa" in Sydney, is screening a retrospective of Rani's distinctive films alongside recent Bollywood hits, some regional cinema gems and documentaries. For Rani, every role is a dream role, but the role that debutant director Anurag Singh gave her in "Dil Bole Hadippa" was "wonderful". "It is wonderful being a man and to feel like a man and get attracted to beautiful women. It was a dream role because I could never imagine in my life that I would cross dress as a man. I also got to experiment with cricket, a sport I had never played in my life. I trained for eight months and fell in love with the game. And, of course, being a man and tying your hair up in a turban was the most relaxing part!"
Being a Bengali, was it difficult for her to play the role of a Sardar? "Punjabis and Bengalis make a great combination; even marriages between them are lovely," said Rani, relating an interesting episode about how she was exchanged with a Punjabi baby at the hospital and her mother had to fight to get her back. "I still have to crack the code whether I am a Sardar or Bengali," she said.
Rani also revealed that if she weren't an actress, she would have been "a housewife with my sari tucked in my waist, making chapattis for my husband, raising two kids probably in Allahabad or Kolkata or somewhere where my parents would have married me off!"
So is she ready to direct films after a career spanning 17 years as an actress? Rani was forthcoming: "I would like to do a lot of things in life, but you never get to do everything that you want to do. When an actor probably completes 10 years, you are often asked would you like to direct or write? I didn't want to become an actress, but I became one and so I have this thing in my head that 'Never say never'. It is not something I have planned, but if I do get an opportunity and have this energy rush in my body to take up the responsibility of a director some day, I would definitely love to direct."
Asked if she dreams about winning an Oscar, the multi-award winning actress said: "I would dream about everything and as an actor our greed never stops for awards, recognition, fame, and love and warmth from people; so it is a never ending process for an actor."
The actress, who chooses her roles with care and takes what inspires and excites her, is looking forward to "No one killed Jessica", a film based on the murder of Delhi model Jessica Lall in which she plays the journalist. "It is a very different film that I am doing after a long time. It is a very different and powerful role; so I don't know how my fans are going to react to it, but I am looking forward to it because it is an interesting movie based on a true life story."

Shahid Kapoor brought the house down when he paid a eight-minute tribute to pop icon Michael Jackson at the Filmfare Awards ceremony.

Not only was the audience up front spell bound by his perfect foot work and provocative mannerisms, it seems even the actors backstage were actually admiring Shasha. One little birdie says that actors — Shah Rukh Khan (who actually thinks Shahid is one of the finest young talents) and hold your breath, Saif Ali Khan, the emcees that night, were heard saying, “Arrey yaar this boy is so good. We must learn to dance like him.” At least for that night, Shahid found fans in-house too!

Barbara Slapped Hrithik !

A lot has been written about the off screen chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and his Kites co-star Barbara Mori - which they’ve chosen to deny - but the playful camaraderie they shared on the sets is something even the film’s director Anurag Basu vouches for.
It was fun on the sets,” says Anurag, recounting a humorous incident. “We were doing an intense scene which had a long dialogue. Towards the end, Barbara was supposed to slap Hrithik. We okayed the scene. But Barbara asked me if it was possible to do a retake, because she wanted to slap Hrithik again. It was a prank, but I decided to play along. Duggu was very surprised when I told him we’d do the scene again because I’d already told him the earlier take was fine.”
Basu kept trying to convince Hrithik, but the actor had smelt a rat. “So when we shot again, just as Barbara was about to slap him, Duggu ducked and slapped her instead. Barbara was shocked. Then she realised that Hrithik had seen through her prank and everyone on the sets burst out laughing.”

It’s double celebration time for Kangna, for the pretty gal also turns a year older in a few days.

When she joined Bollywood, she was all of 17, and was “immature.” At first, the crazy life of an actor dismayed her. “I used to think this is such torture – shooting for multiple hours and working for so long. At times, you’re supposed to begin your day at 5.30–6 am,” she says. Then she thought there was discrimination too. “I would think ‘Why this break for that actor, and why this one for me?’” But things have changed today? “Of course. After spending a decent amount of time in the industry, one becomes more calculative and observant. Today, I feel that if I’ve chosen to do this kind of work, I better live up to it. I understand the business of filmmaking.”
What else has she observed all these years? “That despite the frenzied pace, one can have fun, lots of fun. Only that fun is unpredictable, you never know when you’re going to laugh – in the middle of shooting, or on the sets or elsewhere,” she says, adding, “I’ve also observed that the image of actors is very bad. People think all actors are dumb. Once I had a discussion with a director, after which he was surprised, and said, ‘Oh! You’re so intelligent.’ And I felt, perhaps, this is not the way they expect an actor to be.” And she has more to say, “Also, actresses are not expected to be involved in all those discussions and debates regarding script, shooting, dialogues, etc. And if an actress does, people are surprised. When I took interest in all of this, I was treated like a man. Usually, it’s only the men who are interested in the behind-the-scene specifics.” And when she was offered Rs 5 crore for Tanvir Khan’s movie, she felt like a man again? “Earlier, if the hero was paid Rs 1 lakh, the female lead would get half the amount. But now, things are changing.
Then what are women interested in, ‘usually’? “I’ve noticed that women are more interested in who they’re working with. I was shocked to know that someone can only be interested in the co-actor, and not the script. Ask them why, and they say, it’s an A-list actor, and it’ll prove beneficial to their career. And I wonder, ‘Are you an actor or a fan? How can you care less about your character?’” But Kangna says she understands this, for, “This is what happens with beautiful women who’re not intelligent. And that’s how even men want them to be. An intelligent woman may pose a threat to their intellect, you see. It is so natural. If I were a man, even I’d marry a beautiful, dumb woman, lest she proves I’m less intelligent!”
Some believe there are no permanent friends in the film industry... “It’s such a terrible thing to say. How can one feel that? If a director offers a role to an actor, is he taking advantage of him? I believe he’s giving him work. But later, when the two can’t be in touch, will the actor say, ‘See, he’s not a friend anymore, for he doesn’t talk otherwise.’ People can’t be in touch always due to lack of time,” Kangna explains.
Before she set out to make it big in cinema, Kangna learnt theatre in Delhi. And coming to Delhi reminds her of those days. “I love Delhi winters. When I used to live here, I saw the pace of life, and it’s not as fast as Mumbai.” One day, her guru suggested she “become a film actor, than a theatre actor, if she wanted a decent life.” Kangna says she asked him, ‘Why not be a theatre artiste and still earn success?’ “He said, ‘That’s how it has been, and is,’” she recalls.

The buzz is that Sarah Thompson sneaked in and out of Mumbai (why sneaked, she’s unrecognised here) over two days last week to dub for Rajneeti and Katrina Kaif was at her cordial best with the American actress. The Hollywood and Bollywood beauties play Ranbir Kapoor’s videshi and desi girlfriends respectively in Prakash Jha’s film but have never before come face to face because they share no scenes in the film
The buzz is also that Ranbir, naturally, got along like a house on fire with Sarah and Katrina, therefore, was expected to be somewhat cool with the American actress when she visited Mumbai. Katrina was reportedly polite, but aloof with Sarah. But Ranbir chatted her up on the sets like a long-lost friend. Katrina was spotted seeking Arjun Rampal’s company. After dubbing, Sarah wanted to visit some non-touristy spots in Mumbai. Ranbir leaped at the opportunity to take her around. But Sarah, fearing the super active Bollywood paparazzi, wisely asked for female company to prevent tongues from wagging. No, Katrina didn’t volunteer to take her around. The duty was dumped on Prakash Jha’s daughter Disha. Apparently, the girls visited Chor Bazar, where Sarah bought a lamp, and then the Dhobi Ghat at Mahalaxmi about which she had heard so much.

Sarah will be back in Mumbai this summer to promote the film at the same time as Latino hottie Barbara Mori who will come down for the promotion of Kites. Get ready for the promotional battle between the two firangi babes.

Movie Review: New in Town

Film: New in Town
Cast: Renee Zellweger, Harry Connick Jr
Genre: Drama
Direction: Jonas Elmer
Duration: 1 hour 37 minutes

Story: Renee Zellweger wants to become VP of her company. But before she can do that, she must move from Miami to Minnesota and supervise the downsizing of a manufacturing plant. Turns out, it isn't as easy as she thought it would be, specially when the uptown city girl begins to fall in love with the trade union guy, Harry Connick Jr....

Movie Review: Kudos to Renee Zellweger. She manages to rise above a lack lustre script and give it some bounce with her balsy act of an upscale, ambitious, hard-headed business woman who discovers she's actually all heart. What brings about this change in her is a bunch of small town people who believe it isn't the fireplace that actually keeps people warm. Nah! for them, it's human emotions that matter the most, even if it means befriending seemingly offensive people, like Ms Zellweger, who doesn't think twice before hurting and stinging all and sundry.

Sent to cold and snowy Minnesota to hand out some pink slips, the lady in high heels however soon learns to come down to ground level. All it takes is a bit of tapioca pudding, a few family dinners with her homely assistant and some night outs with the antsy trade unionist, Harry Connick Jr who has a 13-year-old daughter with a bad hair day.

An inconsequential love story, New in Town acquires body and form only because of Ms Zellweger. Watch it as time-pass. It could make you smile on an average day.

Harry Potter" star Emma Watson received a standing ovation for her role in a student play despite battling nerves over her debut university performance.
The 19-year-old played Olga Sergeyevna Prozorova in an adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters" earlier this month at Brown University in Rhode Island, where she is studying, reports imdb.com.
"Emma was nervous beforehand but was faultless in her role. She has been juggling coursework with rehearsals and learning lines so she's had a lot on her plate," said a source close to her.
"Emma was over the moon that every show was a full house. She also made some new friends while doing it," the source added.

Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson is looking for an older man to date because she believes they will be better at maintaining a relationship.

The 42-year-old, who was previously married to Tommy Lee, Kid Rock and Rick Salomon and recently split from beau Jamie Padgett, wants to try romancing someone her senior as she thinks it may be the way to a successful commitment, reports fametastic.

"I need an older man, don't you think? I'm going to try that for once," she said.

Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt who recently split from her long-term boyfriend Jamie Kennedy hates being single and prefers to be in a relationship.
The "Ghost Whisperer" actress says she doesn't like being on her own and loves being committed, reports gossipblender.
"I'm a relationship kind of girl. I like a twosome. Some people get excited about being single. I don't," said Love Hewitt who has written a self-help book on relationships titled "The Day I Shot Cupid".
The actress, 31, insists her break-up from Kennedy was amicable and she is now looking forward to moving on with her life.
"We've parted as friends. There's no anger, there's no upset, there's no enemies. It's been totally fine. It's really a testament to who he is and to who I am. We're both grown-ups," she said.
"I want to be an independent woman who falls in love, finds a great partner for her lifetime, has kids and kind of does it all. I'd like to have it all," she added.

Team Punjab, it seems, is not having a very good publicity run.
The IPL season I saw a showdown between the Mohali police and Ness Wadia over smoking in the stands, Season II was all about the Slapgate between Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth, and now, they are in the news for an ad featuring their team in a Chandigarh newspaper.
The advertisement, which appeared on March 13, read, “The stadium was silent. Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru had just walked into the stands. Are you the wildest Kings XI fan in the stadium? Then you are fan of the match...” This ad led to some NGOs moving court, and also some protest demonstrations in and around the stadium. Now, Bhagat Singh’s grandson, Abhey Singh Sandhu, has submitted a written complaint to the Mohali police, and has also filed a suit in court in Chandigarh, which is set for a hearing today.
We spoke to Team Punjab chairperson, Preity Zinta. “It was not our intention to hurt anybody’s sentiments. I have been informed that the recent ad has hurt some people’s sentiments, which was not what we wanted. I have the utmost respect for leaders of past who made sacrifices for the country. We apologise to the people. The advertisement will be recalled with immediate effect.”
Team senior vice president (operations) Col (retd) Arvinder Singh said, “We have already apologised and we will do it again. I am meeting the senior police officers in this connection. It will be premature to say anything else as some people have taken legal recourse. The ad has been withdrawn and we are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon.” Talking about Sandhu’s and Global Human Rights Commission lawyer Arvind Thakur’s complaint, Mohali SSP GPS Bhullar said, “I have marked an inquiry into the matter.” SP (detective) Varinder Pal Singh, who’s conducting the probe, said, “I have summoned team management and have asked them to join the probe. We have also recorded some statements.” Thakur said, “This amounts to hurting the feelings of millions of Indians. How can someone use the names of freedom fighters for commercial gain? We have made Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta parties in this issue.” Wadia and co-owner Mohit Burman refused to comment.

Farah Khan has a special appearance in Milap Zaveri’s Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai! in which she plays herself, and the film has a sequence in which she is shown to be yearning for her friend Shah Rukh Khan’s company and says, “I miss you Shah Rukh.”
The scene was shot almost a year ago when Farah and Shah Rukh were pretty thick, but things have changed now.
And considering that, Milap, who is very close to Farah and her brother Sajid, sensed Farah’s discomfiture and decided to delete the line. It was ironic that the scene, initially meant to be comic, became such a raw nerve. “Farah is extremely special to me and her cameo lights up my film.
I wouldn’t want to do anything to embarrass her,” confirmed Milap, who has co-written Hey Babyy as well as Housefull which were directed by Sajid Khan.

Kajol Is pregnant?

One question Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is constantly asked in most interviews is whether he plans to have another child. And Ajay has never shied away from admitting that if destiny wills it, he will be more than happy to add to his family.
Now news has it that Ajay’s gorgeous superstar biwi Kajol is reportedly pregnant. And, the Devgns are all in a very upbeat mood. Insiders say the family was in a dual celebratory mode on March 12 when they all met at a birthday dinner for Ajay’s sister.
The handsome Bollywood couple’s first born Nysa will be seven on April 20. And everyone knows that both Ajay and Kajol give their daughter top priority over everything else in their lives. Kajol has wrapped up her talkie portions in Siddharth Malhotra’s Hindi version of StepMom with Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. There were clear discussions on the set that the shooting could not be extended under any circumstances.
The actress, who was recently seen in Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan, has also finished the major portions for Kumar Mangat’s Toonpur Ka Superhero with husband Ajay. It is said that Ajay, who returned to Mumbai after a three-month-long outdoor for his various film shoots, is now keen to shoot in and around Mumbai only just to spend time with his wife. The actor couldn’t make it to the recent Filmfare Awards night because of his busy work schedule but he did send Kajol to the function with absolutely strict instructions to return home in half-an-hour.
Kajol’s sister Tanisha and Ajay’s first cousin Vickey accompanied the actress to the event. And Kajol, who looked resplendent in a red sari and was absolutely enjoying the buffonery of her favourite co-star Shah Rukh Khan with Saif Ali Khan on stage, made sure that she left the awards ceremony within the time stipulated by her husband.
Insiders say that the promotional track of StepMom that was to be shot later is being wrapped up from March 20 in Mumbai because Kajol is participating in the song shoot. The film is slated for a July release and sources say the music video could very well have been shot later. However, keeping in mind Kajol’s decision not to do any work after March, the track is being shot now.

Sajid Nadiadwala is the first film producer to actually take the much-needed step against stars putting up information about under-production films on social networking websites.
This especially applies to one microblogging site, which according to one producer, is the “souten of all confidentiality clauses in film contracts.”
While other producers and directors have only been talking about it, Sajid Nadiadwala has belled the cat. He has contractually forbidden his cast and crew from going on any social networking site to write about his new film Anjaana Anjaani.
This critical decision had to be taken after Nadiadwala saw a constant inflow of pictures and information being put up on the said site. Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor are both on the site. The former is especially active on the network.
Sajid had a closed-door meeting with his director and decided enough was enough.
Says Sajid, “I actually took the decision to forbid my cast and crew from putting any information on websites after an incident that happened with Sajid Khan, my director of Housefull. We were doing a photo-session with the film’s stars. We weren’t even finished and Sajid Khan had already put one of the pictures on the site. I was horrified. That’s when I decided it was time to make the confidentiality clause a legal issue in all my contracts.”
Sajid Nadiadwala laments the lack of privacy among stars today. “I remember when my father produced JP Dutta’s Ghulami, we’d stand outside Dharmendra’s van for hours waiting for him to emerge so we could see what he wore, how he styled his hair, what watch he had on, etc. Today the stars volunteer all this information on the social networks even before the director takes his first shot. I think all of us need to make confidentiality compulsory for every film."
Sajid says the internet syndrome started to affect him during Kambakkht Ishq. “But then it wasn’t so bad because the fad hadn’t become an epidemic in our film industry. Kareena and Akshay Kumar were not on such sites,” observes Nadiadwala.
Needless to say, Priyanka Chopra’s ceaseless tweeting prompted Nadiadwala to take the decision to forbid his films from being discussed minute-by-minute on the internet.

Saif Ali Khan is giving Kareena Kapoor a lesson in film appreciation.
The junior nawab of Pataudi, whose taste in films is exquisite, was last heard telling his girlfriend to pick up good retro films. Besides asking her to see the regular classics like Casablanca,Breakfast at Tiffanys and Gone With the Wind, Saif got Bebo a bunch of Marlyn Monroe flicks like Some Like It Hot and The Seven Year Itch. He also was busy recommending the 1965 thriller How to Murder Your wife.
Kareena was last seen curling up on her drawing room couch all set for a retro film festival of her own. And where was Saif? Well he was around...asking his lady love if she needed popcorn and a diet soda. Wah kya baat hai!

www.bollywood91.com

After all the hard work, Kareena Kapoor believes in indulging herself. One hears that she has recently ordered an S-Class Mercedes Benz worth Rs 75 lakh for herself. The luxury car will be delivered to her doorstep next week.
And while Kareena believes in gifting herself, she also loves pampering her family members. News has it that she will also be gifting a Mercedes to her elder sister, Karisma Kapur, who is due to deliver her second child any day now. The car will be Kareena's gift to her didi for the soon-to-be-born baby. Kareena admitted that she has been looking at the various new swanky models of luxury cars in the market but she wasn't too keen to divulge any details on her new purchase. All Kareena said was, "I've wanted a new car for a while."
It was also being suggested that Kareena would get herself the BMW-7 series. In fact, some reports even said that Saif Ali Khan was presenting her a new car, which of course is not the case. At least not currently.
There are also reports that Saif was toying with the idea of buying a Mercedes Benz sports convertible worth Rs 2 crore for himself. However, his plans are said to be on hold for the moment.

Movie Review: Invictus

Film: Invictus

Cast: Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon
Genre: Biopic
Direction: Clint Eastwood
Duration: 2 hours 14 minutes

Story: Nelson Mandela, released after serving 24 years in prison, becomes South Africa's first black president. Indeed, an arduous task which he begins by building the national rugby team first and inspiring it to win the World Cup in 1995, under the captainship of Francois Pienaar.

Movie Review: Invictus is inspiring political cinema which aptly shows how the difficult task of nation-building isn't about delivering fiery speeches alone. And the fact that it showcases a slice of history from the life and times of one of the most inspirational figures in history, Nelson Mandela, makes it almost epical in nature. The film aptly depicts that governments and politicians don't need to pronounce policy and push files to create cohesive national states. They need to propagate an idea instead, one that binds the nation stronger than any external adhesive or empty rhetoric.
When Mandela takes over as President, he inherits a nation that is torn asunder by race and colour. The first friction occurs at the very onset when the hardliner ANC guards have an ego clash with the Akrikaner cops and must learn how to dissolve their differences and guard the President together. The Prez knows it's time for forgiveness and reconciliation, but how does he deliver this message to the people and usher in a new era? One day, he spots the country's rugby team on television, learns of its dismal history and decides it's time to create history. How long till the World Cup? he asks. A year, he's told. Enough time to give his nation a symbol they can rally around, despite the baggage of history and the colour of their skin. He meets the team, which comprises all white members and just one black player, and tells them to win the first Rugby World Cup for South Africa. It's an idea which not only inspires the team but sees the captain, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon) visit Mandela's prison cell in Robben Island and share the icon's favourite poem which saw him through the bone-breaking and bleak years of rock crunching behind the prison walls.
Like all sports films, Invictus mostly lives through its nail-biting matches, including the thrilling climax where the national team must face New Zealand which has just defeated the Japanese team by 90 points. But more than the edge-of-the-seat excitement, it's the character of Mandela that towers on screen. Morgan Freeman creates an unforgettable `Madiba', who is iconic without being larger-than-life. Matt Damon's Francois is perfectly pitched too: overawed by being touched by history, yet never overtly fawning. But eventually, it is the politics of the film which bowls you over. Like all his films, Clint Eastwood once again creates a searing humanist document that sees a world minus superficial schisms and corrosive differences.

Most actresses wouldn’t mind swapping places with Bobby Darling just for this role. She plays a superwoman in Aditya Dutt’s Will you Marry Me, co-starring Rajeev Khandelwal, Shreyas Talpade and Muzammil Ibrahim.
The film that went on the floors three months ago stars newbies as female leads. But it’s Bobby who gets to seduce the men. “I wear a burgundy wig with a blue body suit. I attract men with my superpowers. We’ll start the next schedule of the film in Bangkok,” reveals Bobby.
She’s also got Apartment, in which she plays Tanushree Dutta’s ‘cute’ neighbour who wants to move in with her, and Club 007, her first Hollywood film, which sees her play a transsexual pole dancer.
With so much happening on the career front, Bobby is delaying her sex change operation. “I’ll do that by the end of next year as I’m getting many offers now. So, I’m on hormones. But when I get my sex changed, I’ll call myself chiclet,” she says.
What’s taking her so long to find the man of her dreams? “Bhagwan shayed mere liye kuch special banaya hai,” she states. Why doesn’t she opt for a telly swayamwar like Rakhi Sawant? “Few know that Swayamwar was first offered to me. But I’ll do another reality show now,” she shares.

Nana is blasting Deepika.

The capricious Nana Patekar is at it again. This time the easily upset Nana gave a earful to Deepika Padukone. The story goes that Nana approached Deepika for a film which he is scheduled to direct for Prakash Jha. However, when Deepika suggested a couple of changes in the script, Nana got upset and gave her a piece of his mind. Deepika chose to remain unfazed by maintaining a dignified silence.
A source said, “Nana had met Deepika on the sets of Raajneeti when she was in Bhopal to meet Ranbir Kapoor who was her boyfriend then. That’s when Nana told Deepika that he is writing a script and has a role in mind for her. Deepika told him that she would love to meet him when he is ready with his film. Recently when Nana took his script to Deepika she suggested a couple of changes, which didn’t go down well with Nana. He refused to acknowledge her suggestions and was furious with her. Despite Nana going to the extent of saying that he has immense experience in the film industry and how can a newcomer like Deepika suggest he make changes in the script, the actress did not say anything even when Nana stormed out.”
A close friend of Deepika confirmed and said, “Yes, Nana had approached her with a script however Deepika refused to do it as she could not connect to it. Nana did not have a verbal argument with her and she is not aware if Nana is upset with her. She did not do the film as it was something that she just did not want to do. That’s it.”

Nana Patekar remained unavailable for comment.

She’s being kept under wraps till such time as the full-blown publicity campaign for Rakesh Roshan’s Kites breaks.
But TOI managed a tete-a-tete with Barbara Mori. Yeah, the Mexican girl loves Mumbai and the movies we make.

How are you today?
I am really excited because Kites is the biggest film I have ever done. I never imagined that I would come to Bollywood and be a part of a film made for audience all over the world. Kites will be very important for my career because this is my first international movie. I can´t wait!
One hears that you have performed some daring stunts in the film? Were you scared? Tell us about some of the stunts…
I was not scared at all, because I like danger. I was really very impressed with the action director and with car crashes and explosions. Hrithik is so good at action, I was learning a lot from him. The action director kept dissuading me from doing my stunts because they were dangerous. But I went to Hrithik and told him I can do it. So he said okay and convinced the action director to let me do my own action stunts. We had a lot of fun. It was the best experience of my career!
Are you open to doing more films in Bollywood post Kites?
Of course, I would love to do more movies in Bollywood. It will be a pleasure for me.
Why have you stayed away from Mumbai for so long? Shouldn’t you be here to publicise your film?
I live in Mexico with my son and my family and I have been working so much in my country. Of course I will come to India soon. I’m looking forward to it.
Are you aware of the entire media circus around your teaming up with Hrithik Roshan?
Working with Hrithik was an amazing experience because he is a very good companion and now a very good friend. As co-stars, Hrithik and I got along really well, he gave me the confidence to do a few scenes that I was initially scared of like the underwater swimming scene.
There is also talk of physical intimacy between Hrithik and you in the movie…
I would not like to comment. Please watch the film.

Katrina Kaif seems to be aiming high with her film Raajneeti. The lady who isn’t known to win awards for her acting apparently aims to win a National Award for her performance in ‘Raajneeti’.

In the movie she has delivered long dialogues in shudh Hindi and that too perfectly. In fact, director Prakash Jha used to sit with Katrina during free time to get her Hindi right. And she even got a Hindi-Urdu tutor for practicing the national language.

The actress who is not so fluent in Hindi used to have dubbing artists for her films until not very long ago. But for ‘Raajneeti’, she worked really hard on her Hindi and did her own dubbing.

And after all this painstaking, tongue-twisting hardwork, she has a lot of expectations from her performance in the film for which she got a chance to work with some of the fine actors from the film industry like Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpai and Naseeruddin Shah. The lucky damsel is sure that this film will win her an award.

Her beau Salman Khan never got a National Award, and incidentally, never a Filmfare Best Actor award too.

Hope Kat does!

Dolphin Intelligence.

If you were to step out into the street and ask the first ten people you see whether or not they believed dolphins were creatures of intelligence, 8 of 10 would probably say yes. If you ask two scientists the exact same question, you just may be opening up a debate that could last for hours. Most scientists to-date have refused to take a firm stand on the intelligence level of the dolphin, and although many will admit that dolphins seem to be intelligent creatures, it is not a proven fact. The biggest problem researchers are running into seems to be the actual definition of intelligence. Darwin's theory bases intelligence on the ability of a species to recognize what it needs to survive, while other schools of thought believe the the size and architecture of the brain, the ability to communicate, or the ability to exhibit playfulness are the indicators. Another reason that the research on dolphin intelligence is limited is because it's difficult and expensive to do in the wild. Dolphins in captivity, may respond differently based on their surroundings and are therefore may not be representative of the wild dolphin. While the U.S. Navy has carried out extensive research on the dolphin and have even trained them to search and even tag mines, that information has not been released to the public.

Lohan is seeking $100 million in damages and compensation for using her name in the ad and parodying her life for the company’s profit. Lilo and her lawyer think the name is strongly associated with the actress/singer so people immediately think the company means Lohan.

Many celebrities are known by one name only, and E-Trade is using that knowledge to profit. They used the name Lindsay. They’re using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn’t they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody’s talking about it and saying it’s Lindsay Lohan,” lawyer Ovadia said in the statement, according to TMZ. “Do you know the name Oprah? Do you know the name Madonna? Same thing.”

Those who created the commercial say the name Lindsay was chosen at random, just “a popular baby name that happened to be the name of someone on the account team.”

Has the fall from stardom resulted in Rani Mukerji becoming a recluse? Sure seems like it as she is no longer the vivacious girl everyone knew and loved.

A source who was earlier close to Rani says, “Rani has stopped communicating with all her friends including Urmila Matondkar, Dia Mirza and Manish Malhotra. She hardly calls them up and at times, she doesn’t even take their calls. Instead, she prefers to spend a lot of time with her niece (Mysha).”
The only person Rani is in touch with from her friend circle is choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant, that too perhaps because she often bumps into Vaibhavi at Yash Raj Films. Vaibhavi regularly works for YRF whose scion Aditya Chopra has been dating Rani for nearly three years.
Why has Rani changed so much? Earlier, she used to attend important social functions particularly hosted by those who mattered to her. But recently, she even skipped Dr RK Agarwal’s daughter’s wedding, and consequently, shocked several of her friends from the industry who expected that she would definitely turn up for the occasion.
“The change in Rani’s behaviour is inexplicable. Her friends want her to be the old Rani again but all she wants is to be left alone. She has become a very, very private person,” adds the source.
Manish said, “I meet Rani. Yes, we haven’t interacted recently but that’s simply because she is shooting in Delhi and I have been busy with my shows and the ongoing fashion week.”

No doubt Katrina Kaif is one of the most happening actresses in Bollywood today. She is known for her glamour roles, and guys feel weak in the knees every time she puts on a hot avatar. But this very girl doesn’t believe she is sexy.
Katrina said that she doesn’t think she is hot and sexy. She thinks that the audience has certain opinion of each person, and that one should not disappoint them. She quoted the example of Vidya Balan, who is known for her ethnic roles, and yet people love her in that image. She added that everybody has a place and one should be comfortable with that.
Well, Katrina should also know that ‘being sexy’ is her strength and make use of it to the fullest!

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who is blessed with a good figure, says she does not believe in being size zero as the Indian body type is not meant for it.
"Correct me if I am wrong, but I personally feel that the Indian body type is not cut out to be size zero. I am not size zero and I don't believe in that either," said Deepika. "I believe that it's nice to be little full and have a nice shape," she added.
The Bollywood actress was the show stopper for designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil's show at the Lakme Fashion Week here Sunday. According to Deepika, an actress gets a role for her performance and not the body type.
"In the (film) industry, body size doesn't matter. What matters is how much an actor contributes through his performance and not his body size," explained Deepika.
"It is important that every person should wear clothes that go with their body - the cut, the fabric make a lot of difference," she added.

Ahead of IPL season 3, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan Saturday invited the people to coach his Kolkata Knight Riders team and send in their suggestions for improving its performance.
"When we used to lose, I used to get inundated with messages, mostly suggestions. I feel sad when we lose, but you have to take all those losses with little bit of ease and a little sense of humour and all those messages and emails, I used to keep them," he said at the launch of the "Main Bhi Coach" programme in association with Nokia India here.
"Keeping in mind peoples' habit of giving suggestions, I decided with the team of Nokia that this time we will launch something which would be called 'Main Bhi Coach' which would officially give everyone a chance to coach KKR and suggest what should we do for our team," he said.
Shah Rukh said people could messages to 9664555555, and all these would be discussed with the team and the coach to see if the ideas could help in improving the team.
Shah Rukh said he is quite positive about his team this season.
"It happens in sports...one team wins and the other loses. I doesn't mean that the team losing is lazy or it doesn't want to win or it is a bad team. When one team competes, it competes to win. I won't say that we didn't work hard. Maybe our decision of multiple captains was not right, we can find excuses but the bottom line is that we worked hard, we played very hard but not hard enough."
"We need to play harder, we need to play tougher and we need to win this," Shah Rukh said.
On the controversy over the deal with Lux Cozi, he said he had kept in on hold because he doesn't want to hurt anyone with his decision.
"We wanted to have lot of local partners. If you have local partners it's nicer. Legally, as a company and in every way I thought it was above board.... it made some people unhappy and what happened over the last six months, I truly believe that lot of people love and support me and I don't want to hurt anybody and even our partners so we have kept it on hold because that's what some members in Kolkata wanted," he said.

It was supposed to be a starry conclusion to a high profile racing tourney, what with Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu arriving to give away the awards. All was well in the beginning as a smiling Bipasha and Saif were escorted to the VIP section from where they cheered for the horses.
When time came to reach the enclosure where the awards were to be given away, some youngsters in the crowd were so taken by Bipasha’s presence that some cat-calling started: ‘Bipasha, bidi jalay le!’, ‘Item girl!’
What could have easily been overlooked as harmless attention seeking, not an unusual feature when a Bollywood star is sighted, became an issue. A clearly irritated Bipasha left the venue soon after without giving away any awards. Saif followed her out of the venue and also left.
When contacted, Vivek Jain, the Chairman of the RWITC, said though he was present for the function, he was not aware whether or not Bipasha and Saif were supposed to give away any awards. “But they were there during the ceremony and in fact, I myself gave Bipasha a memento.” When asked why Bipasha and Saif didn’t stay back for the final awards in the paddock as is the norm, Jain said that for this once the ceremony was held on the main track instead of the paddock.
When we finally got through to Bipasha Basu, she said, “It was all good. And the race was really good. I did not face any problem. Saif was there too and he also was comfortable.”

Kareena Kapoor was elated when the weavers of the remote Chanderi village in Madhya Pradesh had gifted her a gorgeous hand-woven black and gold saree, which she even wore for a press conference of 3 Idiots.
However, she was saddened by the fact that there was no electricity whatsoever in the village because of which the weavers had no choice but to work in darkness with only candles as a source of light. Moved by their plight, Kareena has now given them a Rs 3 lakh (approximate) cheque to raise a solar energy plant and within two months the village will have electricity.
A source said, “Kareena had gone to Chanderi village in MP with Aamir Khan for the promotion of 3 Idiots. The weavers gave her the handmade saree and she also had dinner with them. However, she realised that it was extremely difficult for these workers to weave as there was no electricity in their village.
Consequently, she has now given the cheque to the village officials and is also speaking to several Bollywood friends to join her in the cause to bring electricity to all villages in the country. She didn’t want to only talk about it but to also come forward and do something constructive.”
Kareena said, “I was a little shocked to see how these people work. At the end of the day it’s our country and I learnt that there are about 100 villages in the country which have no electricity. I have handed over a cheque to the concerned authorities to build a solar energy plant. It’s a nominal amount but it can bring smiles to many faces, which is why I wanted to do this. I am told that in about two months, the plant will be built and there will be electricity in Chanderi.
I am also going to ask my friends in the film industry to come forward and make a difference,” she said. http://www.bollywood91.com/
